The resort of Banya, in the region of Karlovo, is most famous as Karlovo spa and is situated in the geographical center of Bulgaria. It is located at the foot of the southern slopes of Sredna Gora Mountain , 282 meters above the sea level, in the valley of Striama River . It is connected to several towns in Bulgaria to railways and highways. It is 45 km far from Plovdiv and 15 km far from Karlovo and Hissaria each.
The nature in the region of Banya is very beautiful and picturesque and offers wonderful opportunities for recreation and tourism. There are also possibilities for combination of balneo- and climate treatment. The resort is famous for its natural mud-curing field of medical mineralpeat mud, the effect of which is proved in science and practice. In the town of Banya there are more than 10 mineral springs with a total flow of 30 l/sec. It is slightly mineralized, hydronatronic, fluoric, and can undergo treatment by bathing in the spas.
